If you work standard office hours, several dental practices in and around Walthamstow publish hours that make appointments easier: weekday starts from 8am, a late evening once a week, or Saturday mornings. The six practices below each have at least one of these, according to their own websites or NHS profiles. Always confirm the time slot you want when you book, as out-of-hours sessions tend to be limited.
How we put this list together: we compared opening hours published on each practice's own website and its NHS.uk profile, along with NHS/private availability and location; practices are not scored, rated or ranked.
Fitting a check-up around a commute is one of the main reasons people put off the dentist. A dental practice in Walthamstow that opens at 8am, for example, lets you be seen and still get into central London for a normal working day, while a Saturday morning slot avoids taking leave altogether. Below we set out which practices offer which, and what else to check before you book.
Early, late and weekend hours at a glance
- Early starts: Abbey Dental Practice (8am, Monday to Friday) and The Dental Design Studio (8:15am, Monday to Friday).
- Late weekday: Elm House Dental Surgery (Monday until 7pm), Forest Dental Care (Monday until 7pm on its NHS profile) and Chingford Mount Dental Practice (Wednesday until 8pm).
- Saturday mornings: The Dental Design Studio, Chingford Mount Dental Practice and Chingford Smile and Orthodontic Studio.
Hours are only half the picture. A practice with a Saturday session may still have a waiting list for new NHS patients, and a practice that opens at 8am may reserve its first slots for existing patients or for hygiene visits. That is why each entry below also notes the practice's NHS status and the services it lists. If you need a specific treatment, such as Invisalign or a crown, ask whether it can be done in the time slot you want, or whether only the consultation and review visits can be booked early, late or at the weekend.
Six practices with flexible hours
1. Abbey Dental Practice, St James Street, Walthamstow
Abbey Dental Practice is at 25 St James Street, E17 7PJ, and opens at 8am every weekday: 8am to 6pm Monday to Wednesday, 8am to 5pm on Thursday and 8am to 4pm on Friday. Private appointments can be booked online at any time of day or night, which helps if you only get a chance to plan in the evening, while NHS appointments are booked by phone on 020 8521 2816. The practice offers NHS and private care, and its NHS profile shows it accepting new NHS patients for routine care (last confirmed 22 September 2026). Its treatments include hygiene care in a dedicated hygienist's surgery, Invisalign, dental implants, veneers and crowns, with 0% finance through Tabeo on private treatment and a £49 new patient private examination.
2. Elm House Dental Surgery, Forest Road, Walthamstow
Elm House, at 288 Forest Road, E17 5JN, stays open until 7pm on Mondays and opens at 8:30am on Fridays, according to its NHS profile (last confirmed 19 October 2026). It offers NHS and private care and is taking on new NHS patients for routine care. Its website lists implants, Invisalign and children's dentistry, and its NHS facilities page lists step-free and wheelchair access.
3. Forest Dental Care, Hoe Street, Walthamstow
Forest Dental Care, at 73 Hoe Street, E17 4SA, is open until 7pm on Mondays according to its NHS profile (last confirmed 23 September 2026). Its own website lists longer hours, including later weekday evenings and weekend opening, so it is worth phoning to check which sessions are currently available and whether they are for private patients. It treats NHS and private patients and lists Invisalign, children's dentistry and emergency appointments.
4. The Dental Design Studio, High Street, Walthamstow
The Dental Design Studio, at 129 High Street, E17 7DB, opens from 8:15am to 6pm on weekdays and from 8:45am to 1:15pm on Saturdays, according to its NHS profile (last confirmed 1 August 2026). Its NHS profile says it currently accepts new routine NHS patients only if they are children aged 17 or under, which makes its Saturday sessions useful for families.
5. Chingford Mount Dental Practice, Hall Lane, Chingford
Chingford Mount Dental Practice, at 35 Hall Lane, E4 8HH, lists Wednesday opening until 8pm and Saturday opening from 9am to 2pm on its website, and says late appointments on Tuesday and Thursday are available by prior arrangement. It lists implants, Invisalign, hygiene appointments and 0% finance. Its NHS profile says it is not currently taking new NHS patients for routine care (last confirmed 18 June 2026).
6. Chingford Smile and Orthodontic Studio, Station Road, Chingford
Chingford Smile and Orthodontic Studio, at 66 Station Road, E4 7BA, lists Saturday opening from 8am to 1pm on its website, with weekday hours from 9am (8:30am on Fridays). It lists general dentistry, hygiene, Invisalign and implants, and offers 0% finance. Its NHS profile shows slightly different Saturday hours, so confirm when booking.
How to choose a practice with flexible hours
- Ask which treatments run out of hours. Early, late and Saturday sessions are sometimes reserved for check-ups or hygiene rather than longer treatment.
- Check NHS or private. Some practices only offer evening or weekend slots to private patients, so ask before you book.
- Book recalls early. Popular slots fill first, so book your next check-up before you leave the practice.
- Think about travel. A practice near your station or workplace may be more convenient than one near home.
- Check registration. Every dentist, hygienist and therapist should be on the General Dental Council register, and the practice should be registered with the CQC.
- Know the urgent route. When practices are closed, NHS 111 can help you find urgent dental care.
Frequently asked questions
Do NHS dentists in Walthamstow open on Saturdays?
Some do. From this list, The Dental Design Studio publishes Saturday morning hours on its NHS profile. Weekend opening varies, so check each practice's current hours on NHS.uk and confirm by phone.
Are evening appointments more expensive?
NHS charges are the same whatever time you are seen: £27.90 for Band 1, £76.60 for Band 2 and £332.10 for Band 3. Private practices set their own fees, so ask whether any out-of-hours supplement applies.
Can I book a dental appointment online?
Some practices offer online booking. Abbey Dental Practice, for example, has 24/7 online booking for private appointments, while NHS appointments are booked by phone.
What if I need a dentist on a Sunday?
For urgent problems outside opening hours, use NHS 111 online or call 111. For serious facial injuries, heavy bleeding or swelling that affects breathing, go to A&E or call 999.
