If you want an unhurried private dental check-up in Sutton, Keppel Advanced Dentistry on Cedar Road is the practice we would look at first: its new patient exam includes an OPG, X-rays and a digital scan for £125, it has free on-site parking, and existing patients pay £75. Sutton Dental Centre has the lowest published fees, while Pine Dental & Aesthetics in Belmont and Love Teeth Dental on the High Street are worth comparing too.
Plenty of people in Sutton have not had a check-up for a couple of years. Sometimes it is because their old NHS practice closed its list, sometimes because life got busy. Either way, the first question is usually the same: what will a private check-up cost, and what do you get for it?
We compared four practices on their published fees and what their check-up pages say is included. If you are booking a dental check-up in Sutton, Surrey, the details below show what sits behind each price, from X-rays to hygiene visits and plans.

How we compared
We read each practice's own fee list and check-up or treatment pages in October 2026. We compared the new patient exam, the routine check-up, X-ray charges and hygiene prices, plus anything the practice says is included in the appointment. We did not visit as patients. Fees change, so treat these as a starting point and confirm the price when you book.
1. Keppel Advanced Dentistry: a thorough first exam with imaging included
Keppel Advanced Dentistry is a private practice at 1 Cedar Road, Sutton SM2 5DA, with free on-site parking. It leads this comparison because its new patient exam bundles the imaging most practices charge for separately.
The fee list prices a new patient exam at £125, and that includes an OPG (a wide X-ray of the whole mouth), X-rays and a digital scan. If you would rather see the clinical director, there is a new patient exam with Dr Tom Keppel at £175. After that, existing patient check-ups are £75.
The check-up page sets out what happens. Your dentist examines your teeth for decay or damage, checks existing fillings and dental work, looks for early signs of gum disease and assesses your bite and overall oral health. A scale and polish may be recommended, and you get advice on brushing, flossing, diet, smoking and alcohol. Digital X-rays and oral cancer screening may be recommended where needed. As the page puts it, "Every check-up includes a full examination of your teeth, gums and mouth, not just a quick look."
Routine check-ups take about 20 to 30 minutes, and new patient visits can take longer. The practice says most people come every 6 to 12 months, with the interval set by the dentist for each patient. You do not need an NHS referral, and there is a free consultation with the treatment co-ordinator if you want to talk things through first.
Hygiene appointments all use Airflow and are priced by length: £95 for 30 minutes, £115 for 45 and £145 for an hour. Phone 0208 642 0355.
Suits: people who have not seen a dentist for a while and want a full picture, including imaging, at the first visit.
2. Sutton Dental Centre: the lowest published fees
Sutton Dental Centre (Sutton Dental & Medical Aesthetics) is at 38 Throwley Way in the town centre. Its private price list shows a routine check-up at £40 and a new patient exam at £50, with X-rays at £15 each. A hygiene appointment is £75, or £140 for an hour.
It opens Monday to Thursday, 8:30am to 5pm, and Friday and Saturday, 9am to 1pm, so it is one of the few options here with Saturday morning hours. It also offers sedation for anxious patients and emergency care.
Suits: budget-conscious adults and anyone who needs a Saturday appointment.
3. Pine Dental & Aesthetics: family pricing in Belmont
Pine Dental & Aesthetics is at 1 Station Approach, Belmont, about a two-minute walk from Belmont station. Its price list shows a new patient exam at £65 including two X-rays, a routine adult exam at £50, children aged 6 to 17 at £30, and under-6s free.
The practice says new patient appointments last 60 minutes and include an oral cancer screening. It opens Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 6pm.
Suits: families in Belmont and south Sutton, and anyone arriving by train.
4. Love Teeth Dental: membership plans on the High Street
Love Teeth Dental is at 5 Sutton High Street and describes the Sutton clinic as its group's flagship. Its fee page lists a first new patient exam at £75 and a routine exam at £55, with a scale and polish at £85 on weekdays.
The bigger draw is its plans. Hygiene membership is £14 a month for two visits a year, and care plans start from £25 a month, with members getting 10% off treatment.
Suits: people who prefer a fixed monthly cost to paying per visit.
How often do you actually need a check-up?
Less often than many people think, if your mouth is healthy. NICE guidance (CG19), which dentists in England follow, says the gap between check-ups should be set for each person: from 3 months to 2 years for adults, and from 3 months to 1 year for under-18s.
That means a dentist might see one adult every six months and another every 18 months. Ask your dentist why they have chosen your interval. If you have gum problems, a history of decay or you smoke, expect to be seen more often.
Private or NHS: what is the difference?
On the NHS in England, a check-up is a Band 1 course of treatment, which the NHS lists at £27.90. Band 1 covers an examination with advice, X-rays if clinically needed, and simple gum care such as scaling. Children under 18 are free. The catch is finding a practice with NHS places.
Private fees are set by each practice, which is why the table above ranges from £40 to £175. What you usually pay extra for is time, imaging and access to hygiene appointments. All dentists, NHS or private, must be on the General Dental Council register, and dental practices are regulated by the Care Quality Commission.
Five things to ask when you book

- How long is the appointment?
- Is a scale and polish included, or is that a hygiene visit?
- Will I get a written treatment plan if anything needs doing?
